בס"ד

פרשת וישב - PARSHAS VAYESHEV

"אלה תולדות יעקב יוסף" - "These are the generations of Jacob, Joseph"

"These" are a reference to difficulties, like is mentioned in the Talmud that the difficulties of the generations of Jacob, meaning the most difficult job of all of the progeny of Jacob's Divine service is to be like Joseph, who guarded the covenant (i.e., kept sexual purity). Understand this well. The letter aleph also refers to difficulties, like we see that the Name "Aleph" refers to kindness, as it says "draw kindness to those who know You", "Aleph" from the side of kindess which is in it should be for us to draw the kindness, and "Aleph" from the side of strictness, which will be "zealous and vengeful" to our enemies.
